New to ADS-B? How it works in 30 seconds

Aircraft broadcast their position, altitude and speed by radio on 1090 MHz. That signal is called ADS-B.
A small antenna at your window picks it up; a USB dongle and a Raspberry Pi decode it.
Your Pi sends the decoded positions to Dataero over your internet connection.
They show up on radar.dataero.eu, for everyone, with your station credited.

Common questions

Do I need an account to start?: No. Your receiver feeds anonymously right away; claim it later and its statistics come with it.
Does it cost anything?: No. Only the hardware, roughly EUR 100 to 150 new, and a few watts of electricity.
Can I keep feeding other networks?: Yes. One receiver feeds as many networks as you like; Dataero replaces nothing.
What is a receiver ID (UUID)?: A unique code that travels with your feed, so we know which aircraft your station heard. Keep it to yourself: the first account that links it owns the receiver.
What is MLAT?: Some aircraft do not broadcast a GPS position. Several receivers hearing the same signal let us locate it from the timing differences. It only helps with an exact antenna position.
How far will it see?: Height and a clear view of the sky decide almost everything. Your coverage map shows the result.
