Add Dataero to your receiver

Next to Flightradar24 or any other network. Your other feeds keep running, untouched.

Your receiver already feeds Flightradar24 (or FlightAware, ADS-B Exchange...)? The Dataero client adds Dataero as one more feed, running in parallel. It leaves your FR24 feed alone: it never starts, stops, restarts or reconfigures fr24feed, your decoder or their settings, and it cannot use the radio dongle (its forwarder has no radio driver). It only reads the data your decoder already shares on the receiver, just like fr24feed does.

  1. 1Connect to your receiver

    Open PowerShell (Windows) or Terminal (Mac, Linux) and log in to the receiver with the username and password you use on it. Its IP address is listed on your router's page.

    ssh <username>@<receiver-ip>
  2. 2Install the Dataero client

    Copy, paste, press Enter. Works on the Flightradar24 Pi24 image, on PiAware images and on receivers running readsb.

    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y git
    git clone https://github.com/dataero-adsb/dataero-adsb-feeder || git -C dataero-adsb-feeder pull
    cd dataero-adsb-feeder
    sudo bash installer.sh

    The installer finds your decoder by itself and adds Dataero next to it. On a Flightradar24 image it first builds its own forwarder, which takes a few minutes. It then asks for a station name (optional), MLAT (answer yes only if you know the exact antenna position) and the antenna position. It ends with Installation complete, your other feeds listed as untouched, and your Dataero receiver ID.

  3. 3Check that both feeds run

    systemctl is-active fr24feed dataero-readsb dataero-feeder

    Each line should read active: fr24feed is your Flightradar24 feed, dataero-readsb and dataero-feeder are Dataero. Your Flightradar24 statistics keep counting exactly as before.

  4. 4Claim your receiver

    Sign in, open Receivers and paste the Dataero receiver ID into Link a receiver. It is not your Flightradar24 sharing key. Lost it? Read it back with:

    sudo grep RECEIVER_UUID /usr/local/dataero-adsb-feeder/.env

Good to know

  • The client reads the Beast output of your decoder (port 30005), or the raw output of fr24feed (port 30002) when that is the only one. With the raw output, MLAT is not available.
  • If your receiver offers neither, the installer stops, changes nothing and tells you what to turn on.
  • A receiver box supplied and managed by Flightradar24 does not give you access to its system: the client can only be installed on a receiver you set up yourself.
  • Remove Dataero at any time with cd ~/dataero-adsb-feeder && sudo bash uninstaller.sh: only Dataero is removed.
