Get the parts

Four things, about EUR 100 to 150 new.

  1. Raspberry Pi 4 or 5

    With its official power supply and a 16 GB or larger microSD card. A 3B+ works too.

  2. USB radio dongle

    An RTL-SDR stick sold for ADS-B, ideally with a built-in 1090 MHz filter and amplifier.

  3. 1090 MHz antenna

    The one in the dongle box is fine to start. Outdoor or loft antennas hear much further.

  4. Internet

    Cable or Wi-Fi. The feed is a lightweight stream.

Where to put the antenna: as high as possible, with a clear view of the sky, away from metal. Placement beats price.
